SUMMARY
Chaotic advection + inhomogeneous sources + chemical/biological decay produces patchiness
The important quantities are l and lC (not just the growth rate!). Structures determined by the interplay between these scales.
Intermittency much stronger in open flows(jets, ...) than in closed flows (recirculating basins...)
G(k) ~ k -b , b=1+z2 > 1. Spectrum steeper than Batchelor law (and may be time-dependent)
Similarities with work by M. Chertkov (Phys. Fluids, 1998, 99), on a smooth Kraichnan model are surprisingly strong.
